Product FAQs

What commercial environments benefit most from a bi-directional pendant like the Galaxia Halo?

The uplight component makes the Galaxia Halo particularly valuable in spaces where the ceiling plane needs illumination as well as the occupied zone below. In commercial offices with exposed concrete soffits, feature ceilings, or dark-toned ceiling finishes, a downlight-only pendant leaves the ceiling as a visually heavy, unlit surface that increases the contrast ratio between the fitting and its surroundings. The upward component of the Galaxia Halo bounces light off the ceiling, softening that contrast and raising the overall luminance of the space, which creates a more visually comfortable and less fatiguing environment for occupants seated beneath it for extended periods. Lobbies, open-plan studios, and double-height spaces where the ceiling architecture is part of the design all benefit particularly from a fitting that works in both directions.

How is the wattage split between uplight and downlight on the Galaxia Halo, and why does that ratio matter?

At 35W, the Galaxia Halo delivers 25W downward and 10W upward. At 70W, the split is 49W downward and 21W upward. This gives approximately a 70/30 ratio of direct to indirect output at both wattage settings. The ratio is deliberate: the downward component handles the primary task illumination and visual clarity at the working plane, while the upward component provides enough ceiling illumination to meaningfully reduce contrast and raise ambient luminance without overpowering the direct output. A 50/50 split would create a flat, directionless feel; a 90/10 split would barely register as bi-directional. The 70/30 ratio gives both functions enough weight to serve their purpose independently.

Can multiple Galaxia Halos be installed together to light a larger commercial space?

Yes, and installing a group of them is an effective approach for larger floor plates or more expansive reception areas where a single fitting would either look undersized for the space or need to be specified at a wattage higher than the room requires. Multiple Galaxia Halos arranged as a cluster or in a linear grouping create a cohesive overhead installation where each fitting contributes both its downward task illumination and its upward ceiling wash, compounding the ambient effect across the full area. If you are planning a multi-unit installation, the free lighting design service can advise on spacing, grouping, and wattage selection to ensure the coverage and visual balance are right for your specific space.
