FAQs For Commercial Hallway Lighting

How should a commercial hallway be lit?

Commercial hallways should be evenly lit along their length to avoid bright and dark patches. Linear lighting, either recessed, surface-mounted or suspended, is the most common choice because it gives uniform illumination.

Do commercial hallways need emergency lighting?

Yes. Under BS 5266-1, commercial hallways used as escape routes require emergency lighting that maintains at least 1 lux along the centre line for 3 hours after mains failure. Many of our linear fittings are available bespoke with built-in 3-hour emergency function.

Can curved or wiggle lights be used in hallways?

Yes. Curved and wiggle lights from our Flow range are widely used in feature hallways, especially in hotels, offices and high-end retail, where the corridor itself becomes part of the experience. They still provide functional illumination while creating a strong visual identity.
