Product FAQs

What is the best low glare track light for an open plan office or commercial workspace UK?

For open plan offices and commercial workspaces where screens are in use throughout the day, glare control is as important as lumen output. A recessed aperture track light shields the LED array behind a deep housing and multi-lens optic, reducing visible glare significantly compared to a standard exposed spotlight on the same track. The Zodiac 48V adjustable recessed aperture light delivers a focused 24-degree beam and is tiltable by 170 degrees, making it suitable for task lighting, accent zones, and feature walls in commercial offices where occupant comfort is part of the specification brief.

What is a recessed aperture track light and when should I use one in a commercial fit-out UK?

A recessed aperture track light is a track-mounted fitting where the LED source sits deep within a housing rather than being exposed at the surface. This creates a cleaner, more architectural appearance on the ceiling and reduces the brightness contrast between the fitting and its surroundings, which is the main cause of discomfort glare in office environments. The recessed aperture design combines a minimalist aesthetic with a multi-lens LED array that delivers focused, glare-free lighting, making it the preferred choice over a standard spotlight in offices, reception areas, and commercial corridors where the fitting needs to integrate cleanly into the ceiling while still offering full directional flexibility.

How does a recessed aperture track light help with UGR compliance in a commercial office UK?

UGR (Unified Glare Rating) measures discomfort glare from a light source in a space. UK and European workplace lighting guidelines require UGR values below 19 in office environments, particularly where computer screens are in use. A recessed aperture fitting reduces UGR by shielding the LED array behind a deep housing, limiting the angle at which the bright source is visible to occupants. Combined with a narrow 24-degree beam that concentrates light downward rather than spreading across the ceiling plane, the recessed aperture format is one of the most effective track light options for meeting UGR requirements without sacrificing directional flexibility. For projects requiring confirmed UGR values, Linear Lights can advise during the specification stage.
